On a day filled with rhythm, colour, and connection, we came together to celebrate #Bexley #BlackHistory2025 and what a celebration it was.

From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere was electric. Families, elders, youth, and community leaders gathered not just to mark a date, but to honour a legacy. We danced to the beat of African drums, shared soulful food that warmed hearts, and embraced the joy of being together in a space that celebrated Black excellence, resilience, and creativity.

We were deeply honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Christine Catterall, whose support and gracious words reminded us of the importance of civic recognition and inclusive leadership. Her attendance was more than symbolic it was a gesture of solidarity and respect.

Throughout the venue, local organisations and businesses showcased the richness of Bexley’s diversity. From cultural arts and community services to wellness initiatives and businesses, each stall told a story of community care and innovation. It was a powerful reminder that Black history is not just about the past , it’s about the present we’re shaping and the future we’re building.

This celebration was more than an event. It was a living expression of our values: dignity, legacy, emotional wellbeing, and collective joy. It reflected the heartbeat of Active Horizons and our partners, a commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
