Time capsules have long been a way for communities to leave behind a tangible record of their lives. A bridge between past, present, and future. This week, we had the incredible opportunity to contribute to history by burying our very own time capsule in the old Air Raid Shelters at Erith grounds.

Our Founder/Chief Executive Yeukai Taruvinga alongside Councillor Nicola Taylor of Erith and Scout Leaders Tracy and Clair, we came together to mark this special occasion. It was a moment filled with reflection, excitement, and a sense of purpose. We carefully placed messages, artifacts, and records that capture what life is like in 2025—offering future generations a glimpse into our everyday experiences, hopes, and the world we live in.

Why a Time Capsule?

A time capsule isn’t just about storing objects, it’s about preserving stories. What will life look like decades from now? Will the challenges we face today seem distant, or will our experiences resonate with those who open it in the future? These questions make this project all the more meaningful.

Through our capsule, we hope to tell future generations about our community’s spirit, the events that shaped us, and the everyday joys and struggles we encounter. Who knows, perhaps one day, someone will unearth these pieces and find inspiration in the resilience, creativity, and unity of our era.

Honoring Erith’s Past

The choice of location the historic Air Raid Shelters adds another layer of significance to this initiative. These shelters once stood as symbols of protection and endurance during wartime. By placing our capsule here, we connect with the past while making space for the future.

The event was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of Councillor Nicola Taylor and local council officers, who ensured that our community could take part in this inspiring moment. We are deeply grateful for their involvement in bringing this project to life.

Looking Ahead

As we buried the capsule, there was a sense of excitement about what lies ahead. This is not just a collection of objects, it’s a time-stamped reminder of who we are today. Years from now, when the capsule is finally uncovered, we hope it sparks curiosity, reflection, and a renewed appreciation for the journey of those who came before.

Here’s to making history together—and to leaving behind something truly meaningful.
