In this poignant phase, we are excited to launch our new project aimed to tackle racism in schools and the community as identified by young people. Funded by Orbit and working in collaboration with Little Fish Theatre.
It’s is reported that over 95% of young people witness or experience racism in school. Also, young people feel pressurised to change their hair to appear more accepted. In some cases affects their academic performance. This is a huge concern!
We are looking for young people in secondary school to be part of our Youth Ambassadors programme, to lead on tackling racism in schools and community. Despite the past 15 years of the our youth intervention work, unfortunately young people still report experiencing racism either overt or covert. It is reported that young black people We believe that the key to tackling this issue, is through a collective approach with young people leading together with key players such as members in the community, school heads and local decision makers.
About the programme
- Young people will receive training in identity, leadership development, effective communication skills, power analysis, campaign skills, role playing, and exposure trips.
- Young people will have the opportunity to go on exposure trips such attend board meetings, conduct presentations to decision makers influencing the issues of racism as well as similar matters.
- Young people will become recognised Peer Advocates as well as the voice who will be equipped to be able to identify and be the building blocks of change.
